STATESVILLE – A new traffic pattern is coming to Interstate 77 North in Iredell County.
The I-77 North ramp to I-40 East and West will close at 8 tonight. This will allow crews to prepare to open a new ramp to access I-40. The new ramp will be about 900 feet – or the equivalent of three football fields – south of the existing ramp that will close tonight.
The new ramp is scheduled to open by 8 a.m. Saturday. The ramp realignment is part of the larger I-77 and I-40 improvement project.
During this closure, traffic exiting I-77 North for I-40 will be detoured to U.S. 21 (Exit 54) to I-77 South to I-40.
The ramp from I-77 North to I-40 West will remain closed until Sunday while work continues. Motorists traveling from I-77 North to I-40 West will be detoured to I-40 East to Exit 154 (Old Mocksville Road) and back to I-40 West.
Motorists should use caution when traveling through the area and expect some delays while using detours.
