Pedestrian Struck And Killed On I-77 In Iredell County

Mooresville – On Wednesday, June 26, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on I-77 south near NC 150 (Exit 36). A 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling south on I-77 and struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and the roadway was not lighted.

The pedestrian, Calvin Jay May, 63, of Greenville, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Meiko Madera, 26, of Killeen, Texas, was not injured.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was partially closed in the area for several hours. No charges will be filed in this case.
