SPARTA – On Saturday, July 22, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Alleghany County on Glade Valley Road near NC 18. A 2016 Ford Fiesta was traveling south on Glade Valley Road, crossed the centerline, drove off the left side of the road, overturned, and struck a house.
The driver of the Ford, Abigale Victoria Henderson, 23, of Ararat, Virginia, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. A passenger was transported by medical helicopter to Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, in critical condition.
No occupants of the house were injured, and the house received minor damage.
During the on-scene investigation, Glade Valley Road was partially closed in the area for four hours. The initial investigation indicates reckless driving to be the contributing circumstance in the collision.
