North Wilkesboro Man Jailed After High-Speed Chase

A Wilkes County man is in custody after allegedly leading officers on a high-speed chase early Saturday morning.

William Kyler Ray Vencil, 19 of North Wilkesboro, is charged with felony flee to elude arrest, resisting a public officer, fail to heed lights and siren, speeding, failure to stop at steady red light, careless and reckless driving, driving without a license, driving left of center, and failure to maintain lane.

Around 2am on Saturday, June 22nd, an Officer with North Wilkesboro Police spotted a dark colored SUV traveling west on Highway 268 at a high rate of speed.

The Officer attempted a vehicle stop but the driver continued at a high rate of speed reaching more than 90 miles-per hour then turning left onto 2nd Street. The pursuit traveled on Highway 115 before finally ending on Armory Road.

Vencil was taken into custody and placed in the Wilkes County Detention Center without bond.

Vencil also has pending charges in Wilkes County that include felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony conspiracy to commit larceny. He was scheduled to make a court appearance on Monday.
