Two of the other three officers killed have been identified, another Department of Correction Officer, Samuel “Sam” Poloche and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officer Joshua Eyer. The fourth officer, a Deputy Marshal with the U.S. Marshals Service, had not been identified.
There were eight officers shot overall during the incident. Police were responding to serve warrants out of Lincoln County on 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes, who also died during the shootout. Hughes was wanted for possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of felony flee to elude arrest. Officers from multiple agencies responded to the home at approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Two individuals were taken into custody for questioning. According to the Officer Down Memorial Page website Investigator Elliot had served with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction for 14 years and was assigned to the Special Operations and Intelligence Unit. He is survived by his wife and child.
