The Alexander County Board of Commissioners has selected Justin Mundy as the new County Manager, following a comprehensive search and interview process. Mundy will officially begin his duties on December 1, 2025.

A lifelong Alexander County resident, Mundy brings both professional experience and a deep commitment to the county he calls home. He previously served as Finance Director and Interim Town Manager for the Town of Troutman, where he oversaw financial operations, managed budgets, and directed day-to-day activities. Prior to that, he worked on the governmental audit team at Martin Starnes CPAs.

Alexander County Board of Commissioners Chairman Marty Pennell said Mundy’s professional expertise, combined with his local roots, made him the ideal candidate for the position.

“Justin has the financial expertise, knowledge, and vision that Alexander County needs as we continue to grow and move forward,” Chairman Pennell said. “But what really sets him apart is his connection to this community. He knows Alexander County, he understands our people, and he genuinely cares about our future. The board believes Justin will serve our employees and citizens with integrity and dedication.”

Mundy said it is an honor to serve the community where he was born and raised, and where he continues to live with his family.

“Alexander County is our home, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve as the new County Manager,” Mundy said. “I look forward to working with the Board of Commissioners and our outstanding staff to continue improving services, supporting growth, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.”

Mundy succeeds Interim County Manager Debra Bechtel, who has provided steady leadership and guidance for Alexander County since May 2025. Bechtel will assist with the transition process as needed.

Mundy is a 2008 graduate of Alexander Central High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 2012 and his master’s degree in 2013 from Wingate University. Mundy is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

He and his wife, Jordyn, have a 3-year-old daughter, Jayda.
