Morganton Man Killed In Iredell County Crash

October 8, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Statesville – On Saturday, October 7, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on I-40 West near Stamey Farm Road (Exit 146). A 2018 Ford Fiesta was traveling west on I-40, failed to adequately reduce speed, and collided with a 2018 International tractor-trailer that was stopped in the right lane due to traffic.

The driver of the Fiesta, Wesley Edward Mallory, 46, of Morganton, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Calvin Runaye Franklin, 61, of Simpsonville, SC, was not injured.

All occupants were restrained by seatbelts. The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor. During the on-scene investigation, I-40 was closed in the area for approximately 2 hours. No charges will filed in this case.
