On Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at approximately 4:30 PM, a call came into Alexander County Communications in reference to shots fired in the Sugar Loaf Community of Alexander County. Officers with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, Taylorsville Police Department, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and North Carolina Department of Public Safety-Probation responded to a residence located on Taylor Ridge Road off of Old Wilkesboro Road, where they discovered a black male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and a white male who had a gunshot wound to the right arm and left hand. Both individuals were treated by Alexander County EMS. The subject with the gunshot to the abdomen was transported via helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. The subject with the gunshot wound to the arm and hand was transported via ambulance to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where he was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. As of April 8, 2021, both subjects are still in the hospital in stable condition.
The following individuals have been charged in connection with this incident:
A search warrant of the residence on Taylor Ridge Rd was executed following the shooting incident. The search of the premises led to a discovery of approximately 350 pounds of vacuum-sealed packages containing marijuana and various concentrated forms of THC that are derived from marijuana, including wax. These narcotics have an approximate street value of $525,000. Cash, totaling approximately $240,000, was also seized from the residence along with the narcotics.
The North Carolina Department of Revenue was contacted and requested to respond to the scene. Three investigators with NCDOR responded to assist with the investigation, where various property was seized throughout the residence for drug tax purposes.
This investigation is continuing with more charges forthcoming.
