McDowell High School Searching For New Football Coach

January 10, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Marion: McDowell football coach Darrell Brewer, who coached the Titans for the past six seasons has announced his retirement.

Brewer went 18-35 including a 2-6 record in 2024. Brewer took over the Titans in 2019, returning to head coaching after a break following an 11-year tenure at Avery County from 2004-14.

As the Titans begin a coaching search they’re slotted to move into what is now the Northwestern Conference, a league they’ve been a part of more often than not in their history. The NC High School Athletic Association has the league with 6 schools including McDowell. The rest of the conference is Alexander Central, Watauga, South Caldwell, Freedom and St Stephens. That configuration is not official. It’s possible the league will have another school or two added.

McDowell has been a member of the Mountain Athletic Conference since 2020

The search is underway for a new coach.
