North Wilkesboro – On Friday, August 25, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Wilkes County on Greenhorn Road near Cottonwood Road. A 2016 Dodge Ram, traveling east on Greenhorn Road struck a riding lawn mower, which the operator was attempting to turn around in the roadway.
The operator of the mower, Daryl Connely West, 74, of Elkin, was critically injured and transported by EMS to Hugh Chatham Health in Elkin, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the truck, Dillon Scott Anderson, 31, of Traphill, was not injured.
During the on-scene investigation, Greenhorn Road was partially closed in the area for one hour. No charges will be filed in this case.
