A man was killed in an accident on US 64-90 early Thursday evening just west of Taylorsville.
A motorcycle operator is reported to have attempted to pass a vehicle traveling east. The bike struck another vehicle head-on. The crash was reported to Alexander 911 at 6:14 pm.
A medical helicopter landed near the scene but the man succumbed to his injuries. He was treated by Alexander County EMS and Alexander Rescue.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the bike suffered minor injuries.
The NC Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
Highway 64-90 was closed from Herman Road to Golf Course Lane for several hours.
