Jonas Ridge– On Wednesday, November 20, at approximately 3:25 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on NC 183 near Parkway Road. A 2005 Dodge Dakota was traveling east on NC 183 when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the road, and collided with a tree.
The driver, Ricky Lynn Buchanan, 61, of Jonas Ridge, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The initial investigation indicates speed and impairment were not contributing factors in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, NC 183 was closed in the area for approximately two hours.
