Man Displays Hatchet At Hickory Walmart

February 27, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Shia Lor

According to a statement released by the Hickory Police Department, on Sunday, February 23, Officers responded to the Walmart store on Highway 70 S.E. in reference to a suspicious subject displaying a hatchet. Upon arrival, Officers located the man near Walmart in possession of a hatchet.

The Hickory Police Department and the Catawba County District Attorney’s Office have reviewed all related evidence and found that — while the subject’s actions in displaying the hatchet were unusual — they did not rise to the level of a criminal charge.

Investigators learned the man, identified as Shia Lor, had previously been banned from the Walmart property. Walmart has since charged Lor. A warrant for his arrest charging him with 2nd-degree trespassing has been issued. As of earlier today, Lor is not listed as an inmate in Catawba County.
