A man riding a bicycle was killed near the Alexander-Wilkes County line Sunday afternoon.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol says 60-year old John Andrew Berry of Asheville, was traveling on a downhill portion of Russell Gap Road in Boomer when he went left of center in a curve. He was witnessed by a motorist running off the roadway. Berry was ejected from his bike and struck an embankment and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Berry, an avid cyclist was riding alone.
