A Georgia man said to have distributed methamphetamine in the area including in Alexander County is serving time in Federal Prison.
33-year old Jonathan Corey Daniel of Monroe, Georgia was sentenced on Monday by U.S. District Judge Kenneth D. Bell to 210 months in prison and five years of supervised release for trafficking methamphetamine. In July 2021, Daniel pleaded guilty to methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and aiding and abetting.
Daniel was a supplier with a drug ring that trafficked methamphetamine from Georgia into western North Carolina. From 2018 to April 2019, while Daniel was incarcerated in Georgia, he arranged the distribution of large amounts of methamphetamine to a drug network that distributed methamphetamine in multiple counties including Catawba, Lincoln, Caldwell and Alexander.
Court records show that Daniel used a contraband cell phone while in prison to communicate with his co-conspirators and to coordinate the drug distribution.
Thirteen other defendants who were previously sentenced include 40-year-old James Kristoffer Cantley of Newton, 36-year-old Priscilla Chapman Lambert of Hickory, 39-year-old Ruth Marie Duggar of Claremont, 45-year-old Lowell Thomas Messer of Newton, 27-year-old Samantha Jean Taylor of Newton, 58-year-old Kimberly Deann Bumgarner of Granite Falls, and 37-year-old Cynthia Roxanne Shook of Conover.
