Lincoln County Woman Killed In Saturday Accident

July 28, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Lincolnton – On Saturday, July 27, at approximately 12:10 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Lincoln County on US 321 Business at Bynum Road. A 1990 Chevrolet truck traveling east on Bynum Road attempted to turn left onto US 321 Business and turned in front of a southbound 2003 Honda Odyssey.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Deane Campbell Griffin, 88, of Lincolnton, was critically injured and transported by EMS to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Honda, Brianna Shantel McCleave, 26, of Bessemer City, and three passengers in the vehicle, received non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates impairment and speed were not contributing factors in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours. No charges will be filed in this case.
