The following is a message issued this evening by Alexander Central Principal Gordon Palmer concerning a message that originated in Florida. Mr Palmer wants Alexander Central students, staff, parents, and the community to understand that while the message was not intended for Alexander Central High School or Alexander Early College, the message was shared multiple times on social media by local citizens. Law enforcement is investigating and as a precaution there will be extra law enforcement on campus Monday morning. Mr Palmer will address the issue Monday morning live on B86 Radio at 7:45am.
Good Evening,
At approximately 7:00pm tonight we were informed of a group message on Snapchat. The topic of the conversation was a potential school shooting that originated out of Florida for a school by the name of Central High School in Fort Pierce, FL. That message was then discussed in a group chat that included students from Alexander Central High School and Alexander Early College.
Regardless of the odds of it being a direct threat to Alexander Central or Alexander Early College, we take any potential threats to safety seriously. We also understand how a conversation like this can spread quickly throughout the community. We worked with the our local Law Enforcement to investigate these rumors, talk to students, and conducted home visits to make sure that we are safe to attend school tomorrow. WE WILL have school tomorrow and carry on as normal for students.
We will have an additional police presence at the school to ensure the safety of our students. I would like to thank everyone involved tonight for keeping our school safe. I appreciate the students and parents for communicating their concerns, local law enforcement for their swift action, and our school staff for ensuring our students safety.
Please feel free to contact the school tomorrow if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Mr. Palmer
