Women’s 6A Regional Semi Final
Alexander Central 61 AC Reynolds 48
Taylorsville: The Alexander Central Lady Cougars advanced to the NC West 6A Regional final with a win over AC Reynolds Tuesday night !
For the old goats like myself, harken back to the days of UNC All- American Phil Ford and his legendary command of the Four Corners. AC didn’t go quite to that extreme but they spread the floor in the final quarter and let senior point guard Malayah Adams take over. She took over so well that even Phil is smiling !

Malayah Adams
AC jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the opening period but the visitors cut the halftime lead to 30-24. Reynolds (21-7) actually took a one-point lead in the third quarter but the shots stopped falling and Adams and Wike were simply too much.
The complete rebuild of the AC Women’s Basketball Program has reached a new level. The year prior to Coach Jon Presnell taking the job in 2019, the Lady Cougars won all of two games. The climb for the program has been steady with furious defense, scrappy competitiveness and hustle, just out-right hustle. No team leaves more skin on the floor going after loose balls. The Lady Cougar game put to music is Heavy Metal, and loud !
The West #2 seed ACHS (25-3) will play West #1 Northern Guilford who blasted TC Roberson 70-38. The game will be played in Hickory at Lenoir-Rhyne University’s historic Shuford Arena on Wednesday. The game will tip at 6pm.
Program note: Coach Jon Presnell will join me live on the Radio Tuesday morning following the 7:30 news !
