Knife Waving Man Leads Officers On Wild Chase In Wilkes County

A Jonesville man in jail facing a long list of charges after a wild July 3rd vehicle chase in Wilkes County.

Wayne Matthew Deponte, age 46, was charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon (a vehicle) with intent to kill, two counts of going armed to the terror of the people, three counts of Injury to personal property, two counts of reckless driving, one count of assault on government employee, one count of resisting an officer, one count of speeding, one count of fleeing to elude arrest, and one count of aggressive driving.
 
The charges were made by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office and the Wilkesboro Police Department. 

Deponte allegedly rammed a Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and waved a knife at officers before being arrested.

The suspect is being held in the Wilkes County Detention Center under a secured bond of $250,000.
