A new high school is on the horizon for Iredell County.
The Iredell-Statesville School Board voted to accept a $143.3 million bid for construction of Weathers Creek High School in Troutman at their Monday meeting.
An $80 million bond was passed by voters in 2020, and the Iredell County Board of Commissioners supplied $40 million in county funds for the project in 2023. The process for the rest of the funding has yet to be determined.
The new campus will serve around 1,600 students.
According to the school system website, the new school will relieve overcrowding at South Iredell and Lake Norman High Schools. The target date for construction to be completed by August of 2025.
