Iredell County Man Charged With Murder

On Saturday, November 18, around 11am, a 911 call was received about a fatal shooting in the area of Nance Farm Road near Mooresville. Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies responded to the scene and located a white male, later identified as David Shane Nance, with multiple gunshot wounds. Nance was pronounced deceased at the scene of what appeared to be a makeshift gun range on private property.

Investigators from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, as well as Crime Scene Investigators responded . It was discovered that the 911 caller was 63-year old Herbert Mark Potts of Mooresville, He identified himself as the shooter . Potts told Detectives the shooting occurred after an altercation between himself and Nance.

An autopsy was conducted on Monday. It was determined that David Nance died as a result of two gunshot wounds to the chest.

Homicide Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Herbert Mark Potts for Felony First Degree Murder.

Potts was arrested on Monday at his residence on without incident. The Suspect is being held in the Iredell County Detention Center without bond.
