Victims reported the locks had been cut off several storage units and items were stolen. These reports were assigned to Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Detectives.
Officers interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video recovered from the areas of the breaking and enterings. The detectives were quickly able to identify a suspect vehicle as a Ford Expedition used by the suspects. Additional evidence identified the suspects as Amanda Sue Jones, and Robert Dale Morton, both of which were from Kannapolis. Detectives also learned the suspect’s four year old daughter was in the vehicle with them while they were committing some of the crimes.
Multiple felony arrest warrants for Jones and Morton were obtained. With assistance from the Huntersville Police they were located and arrested at a motel in Huntersville on Monday, January 8th.
Both Jones and Morton were transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where they were each charged with Seven Counts of Felony Breaking and or Entering, Seven Counts of Felony Conspiracy, and Seven Counts of Misdemeanor Child Abuse.
The duo was placed in custody under $250,000 dollar secured bonds each.
Detectives are continuing to investigate and have learned both Jones and Morton are likely involved in more crimes in other jurisdictions. Additional charges are pending.
