Iredell County Accident Is Fatal This Morning

April 8, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Mooresville– On Tuesday, April 8, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on I-77 South near mile marker 30. A 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling south collided with a 2021 Hyundai Kona that was disabled, sitting sideways in the roadway with no lights on due to a previous collision.

The driver of the Hyundai, Justyn Jack Jenkins, 26, of Mooresville, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Freightliner, Hartford Leon Cunningham, 58, of Charlotte, was not injured.

The initial investigation indicates that speed and impairment were not contributing factors in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours. No charges will be filed in this case.
