The investigation into a double murder has the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office working overtime and so far, it’s a somewhat frustrating and complicated investigation.
B86 Radio was the first to report the murders on Saturday and the first to identify the victims Monday morning. Sheriff Chris Bowman says that 38 year old Chad Lee Kennedy and Mark Jefferson Furey, age 57 were found shot to death inside a mobile home off Mt. Wesley Church Road around noon Saturday. Both men were living at the location at the time of the murders. Bowman said that both men sustained “multiple gunshot wounds.” He also stated that the weapon used was likely a rifle fired at relatively close range. The two victims were found in different rooms of the mobile home. A man who had previously lived at the location had gone there to retrieve some possessions and discovered the bodies.
A number of neighbors in the area told investigators they heard knocks on their doors around 1am Saturday morning. The time of the murders is not certain but according to Chief Deputy Todd Jones, “It’s possible that someone escaped the home and ran for help, we’re considering that possibility.”

Chad Lee Kennedy and John Allen Kennedy are brothers. The cause of death has not been determined but Deputy Jones said Monday, “There was no evidence of foul play and no indication of trauma to the body.”
