Granite Falls – On Sunday, August 17, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Caldwell County on Petra Mill Road near Icard Dam Road. A 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling north on Petra Mill Road when the driver lost control, drove off the right side of the road, struck several mailboxes, and a parked vehicle.
The driver, Belinda Diane Sain, 61, of Hickory, was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
During the on-scene investigation, Petra Mill Road was closed in the area for approximately one hour. The initial investigation indicates speed and impairment were not contributing factors in the collision.
