September 16, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Chanceler Timothy Johnson

The driver of the motorcycle involved in an incident on September 8 has been identified by Hickory Police. Investigators have obtained warrants for 24-year-old Chanceler Timothy Johnson.

38-year-old Cynthia Nicole Lail and her son, 12-year-old Michael Lail, both of Hickory, were killed as the result of a collision that occurred as Hickory Police pursued the motorcycle driven by Johnson. The accident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on September 8 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 70 and 13th Street S.W. in Hickory. Ms. Lail died at the scene and her son passed away two days later.

Johnson has been charged with two counts of felony eluding arrest with a motor vehicle causing death. Investigators believe Johnson may be traveling in a silver Hyundai Sonata with license plate number KER-1082. He may be in the company of 21-year-old Cheyene Faith Raines.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Johnson or Raines should call the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
