Hickory Police Find Wanted Suspect Dead

June 28, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Dallas Loyd Gragg

The Hickory Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a wanted suspect was found deceased on Thursday, June 27.

At approximately 3:20 p.m., Officers responded to 2266 9th Avenue Drive NE in Hickory in an attempt to locate Dallas Loyd Gragg, 34. Gragg was wanted for the following felony charges. One count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury, one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of possession of a firearm by felon. The charges stem from a shooting and armed robbery that occurred at 3319 Valley Arbors Drive, Hickory, on June 20, 2024 in which Gragg was a suspect.

Officers watching the residence witnessed Gragg exit and then re-enter the residence. Officers approached and attempted to establish communication with Gragg and take him into custody. Although Officers were not able to establish contact with Gragg several other occupants exited the residence and informed officers that Gragg was still in the house.

After multiple failed attempts to communicate with Gragg, officers made entry into the residence and discovered Gragg deceased in the attic. Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.
