A Catawba County couple has been charged following an armed robbery at a Hickory apartment complex.
According to Hickory Police, Tony Ray Kirkland II, age 24 of Conover is charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon. Samantha Marie Vono, age 33 of Hickory is charged with aiding and abetting an armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon and altering, destroying or stealing evidence of criminal conduct.Both suspects are being held without bond in the Catawba County Jail.
Hickory Police responded to The Legends Apartments on 21st Street SE around 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 20th after report of an armed robbery. The victim suffered broken bones and is said to be from Statesville.
The police report indicates a handgun was used in the robbery. Hickory Police seized a handgun magazine, video footage, a Michael Kors backpack, a Michael Kors wallet, denim shorts, a handwritten note and bloody gloves as evidence.
A Michael Kors bag and $15,000 in cash were reported stolen.
Arrest warrants for Kirkland and Vono were issued last Friday. They were arrested on Monday at Vono’s address which is located in the apartment complex where the alleged heist took place.
