A fire consumed around 3 acres of leaves, brush, and some hardwood trees Thursday afternoon in the Hiddenite Community of Alexander County.
The North Carolina Forestry Service, Hiddenite, Stony Point and Taylorsville Fire Departments responded around 5pm to the blaze in the 4,000 block of Allendale Ln.
David Huffman, the Alexander County Ranger with the North Carolina Forest Service said this evening that the fire was spreading quickly due to the extremely low humidity and wind. Huffman said the origin of the fire has yet to be determined. He will return to the scene on Friday and continue his investigation.
Huffman praised the local Fire Departments for their response and reminded citizens that this week has changed everything despite the rain of a week ago. The low relative humidity levels have created a potential danger. He urges citizens to be mindful of the current conditions and use extreme caution.
