A no-contest plea means the person charged does not admit guilt.
51-year old Derone Martin McNeill entered the plea in Iredell County Superior Court last week. McNeill was sentenced to 24 months of supervised probation, with the possibility of unsupervised probation after 12 months. Some 26 felony charges of sexual activity with a student were dismissed.
McNeill was originally charged with having sexual relations with a student at Statesville Christian during a period between 2011 and 2014. Those actions were reported to school administrators by the student in 2019.
McNeill is also a former employee of Iredell-Statesville Schools as a teacher assistant and bus driver. His employment was terminated in 2019 after his arrest.
