Former Catawba County Substitute Teacher Pleads Guilty To Indecent Liberties

May 7, 2026 By Richard C. Gilbert

Katelyn Dawn Schronce

A former substitute teacher in Catawba County Schools, has pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties with a child and has been sentenced to 20 to 33 months in prison.

Court documents show Kaitlyn Schronce entered the guilty plea in Catawba County Superior Court. A judge also ordered her to have no contact with the 15-year-old victim.

Schronce was arrested in April 2025 on statutory rape charges involving a victim under the age of 15. At the time of her arrest, Catawba County Schools released a statement clarifying there was no indication the charges were connected to her employment in the district. She had begun working as a substitute teacher in October 2024 and was immediately released from her duties once the allegations came to light.
The district emphasized that the safety and well-being of students is their highest priority and stated they would fully cooperate with law enforcement.
