An Alexander County poultry house was destroyed by fire Monday evening.
Shortly after 8pm, units were dispatched to 7860 Vashti Road. Vashti, Stony Point, Hiddenite and Sugar Loaf Fire Departments all responded as did a unit from Wilkes County. The fire had engulfed at least half of the structure when the initial firefighters arrived.
Alexander County Interim Fire Marshall Garrett Huffman says the structure is a total loss. The operation was in the process of a clean-out so no birds were present. Huffman says it’s likely the cause is electrical in nature.
