More than 30 residents were reportedly evacuated when fire broke out Monday afternoon at Woodland Manor Apartments on 3rd Avenue NW in Hickory. According to published reports, nearly three dozen senior residents were evacuated from the complex. Woodland Manor is a senior community for people 55 and older.
Firefighters responded at approximately 4 p.m. and they used ladders to rescue residents from the building. Greenway Buses were dispatched to assist in the evacuation process. Reports state that the Hickory Fire Department said that no injuries have been reported but at lest two apartments were damaged.
The cause of the fire was not known.
