Fire destroyed an Alexander County poultry operation Friday night.
Units were dispatched to a working chicken house blaze on Kerley School LN north of Taylorsville around 9:50 pm. Sugar Loaf, Taylorsville and Vashti Fire Departments were on the scene but the flames engulfed the structure which was occupied by around 9,000 birds according to Alexander County Fire Marshall Chris Hicks.
Hicks was back at the scene this morning. He says the cause is not yet determined.
