The following is a release from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office
On Saturday, 02/27/2021 at 11:35 p.m. deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on 20th Ave SW in Brookford. When deputies arrived they discovered Justin James Locklear (W/M-22) deceased from a gunshot wound.
Occupants at the 20th Ave SW residence reported hearing noises outside their home around 11:30 p.m. As the residents were attempting to locate the source of that noise they discovered Locklear, a Maiden resident, in their yard. It is further reported that Locklear attacked a male occupant prior to being shot and killed. A vehicle that Locklear is believed to have been operating was found wrecked at the intersection of Hwy 127 South and South Center St. That wreck scene is a short distance away from the 20th Ave SW residence.
The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is investigating this incident. Investigative findings will be submitted to the Catawba County District Attorney’s Office.
