Fatal Crash Reported In Caldwell County

March 6, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Lenoir– On Friday, March 3, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Caldwell County on Union Grove Road near Parkwood Road.  A 2003 Chevrolet S-10 traveling west on Union Grove Road, lost control, crossed the center line, and collided head-on with an eastbound 2008 Chevrolet Colorado.

The driver of the Chevrolet S-10, Izaiah James Thomas Hartsell, 18, of Lenoir, received non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Colorado, Johnny Cleveland Davis, 67, of Marion, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  He was not restrained by a seatbelt.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor.  Upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office, charges are pending.  Union Grove Road was closed in the area for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation.
