February 2, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Connelly Springs– On Saturday, February 1, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on Rhodhiss Road near Monteith Lane. A 2012 Buick Lacrosse was attempting to turn left from a private driveway and pulled into the path of a westbound 2007 Dodge Dakota.

The driver of the Buick, Joe Luey Fulbright, 88, of Connelly Springs, was transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, in Charlotte, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Dakota, James Robinson Jr., 78, of Granite Falls, was treated by EMS at the scene for minor injuries.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors and no charges will be filed in this case. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately one hour.
