At approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a Public Safety Officer responded to a lodging establishment on South Sterling Street following a call from Nguyen. She told police that she was in fear for her safety and was in a room at the motel. She said her boyfriend, Hamby, was using narcotics and she did not feel comfortable.
The two suspects were arrested on the warrants from Watauga County and brought to the Burke County Jail. Hamby was initially placed in that facility under no bond. His bond has since been set at $5,000 secured. Nguyen received a $500 secured bond. She is no longer listed as an inmate in Burke County. Hamby’s next District Court date is scheduled for July 23 in Watauga County. Nguyen has a District Court date in that county August 13.
