Taylorsville: The Lady Cougars advanced in the Northwestern Conference Tournament despite a cold shooting night. Cold from the field but clutch from the free-throw line, Alexander Central went 14 of 18 from the stripe.
The game featured 8 lead changes and was tied 6 times. Freedom had AC on the ropes with a 4 point lead with less than 2 minutes left in regulation. The Lady Cougars rallied with a pair of steals and sent the game to overtime.
Meredith Wike led Alexander Central with 18 points. Malayah Adams had 12 and Kirstyn Herman added 11 and 14 rebounds.
Freedom’s Payton Caldwell had 25.
The win gives the Lady Cougars their 20th win of the year to go with 5 losses. Freedom is 12-12.
AC will play Watauga in Boone tonight in the Tournament semi-final. The game will tip-off at 6:30.

Alexander Central 64 Ashe County 39
The Cougars never trailed in the rout and they owned the boards out-rebounding the visitors 38-18.
Jayon Connor had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Alexander Central. Jaheim Redmond added 13 pints and Garison Millsaps 12.
No Ashe County player hit double digits in scoring.
Alexander Central with record of 11-14 advances to the Conference Tournament Semi-Final tonight in Boone against South Caldwell. Game time is 8 pm.
