Cougars Too Much For Wilkes Central

August 30, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Alexander Central 54 Wilkes Central 14

Two old rivals tangled Friday night in Taylorsville and for the 19 straight time, Alexander Central beat Wilkes Central.

The Cougars rushed for 349 yards led by QB Wade Queen’s 116. Jeremiah Whitaker added 89. Both scored a touchdown, Queen from 87 yards.

A 40-minute lightening delay in the 2nd quarter seemed to refresh the Cougars as they scored a couple quick touchdowns on runs from 2 and 16 yards by Sawyer Chapman-Mays. Wilkes Central would score when QB Noah McNeil hit Jermaine Ferguson on a 4th and 18 from the 25 yard line with 16 seconds left in the half to make the score 27-14

The visitors from Moravian Falls would be out-scored 27-0 in the second half on runs from Jermiah Whitaker , Cole Pennell, Sawyer Chapman Mays and Blake Combs.

The win improves Alexander Central to 1-1 while Wilkes Central falls to 0-2

ACHS will travel on North Iredell next Friday while Wilkes Central will host RS Central.
