AC Reynolds 24
Alexander Central 7
The home-standing Rockets shut down Alexander Central’s rushing attack and rolled to a win in Asheville Friday night.
The Cougars were held to less than 50 yards of offense in the first half but trailed only 7-0. The second half was not much better for the Alexander Central offense although they did mount a couple of scoring chances just to be turned away by the determined AC Reynolds defense. The Blue and Gold’s heavily tilted to the run offense could muster just 66 yards on the ground and 126 total yards.
The highlight of the game for Alexander Central was a 95 yard kickoff-return for touchdown by Andrew Bumgarner after the Cougars had fallen behind 21-0 in the 4th quarter.
QB Luke Hammer was 5-10 passing for 54 yards. Cameron Lackey had 3 catches for 22 yards, Josh Stubs had a catch for 28 yards. AC Reynolds was led by freshman running back Max Guest with 104 yards. QB Ricky Tolbert was 11-12 though the air for 62 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 79 yards and another score.
Cougar linebacker Dalton Beck collected an eye-popping 17 tackles and Landon Wike added 10.
AC falls to 2-1 on the season, Reynolds improves to 1-2.
Next Friday the Cougars will travel to Lake Norman.
