Alexander Central 35 Hibriten 21
Taylorsville: Alexander Central bounced back from an ugly loss the week before and beat Hibriten Friday evening.
The usually run-heavy Cougars showed some balance passing for 166 yards and rushing for 220.
Hibriten led three times in the first half but the Cougars pulled even with 8 seconds when QB Wade Queen grunted in the end zone from a yard. The second half was all Alexander Central as they held Hibriten to less than 70 yards after halftime and outscored the visitors from Lenoir 14-0.
Sawyer Chapman-Mays rushed for 143 on 20 carries and he scored a touchdown. Wade Queen had his best passing night of the year going 8-11 for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jamison Rowe caught 3 passes for 73 yards and a score. Garison Millsaps caught 2 pass for 55 and a touchdown. Maurice Howell Jr caught a pair of passes for 38 yards and score.
Howell led the defense with 9 tackles, Kaleb Genwright collected 8 stops including a pair of tackles for loss.
The Panthers DK Mitchell scored three first-half td’s and ran for 108 yards. Hibriten drops to 2-6.
Alexander Central is now 4-5 overall and 2-2 in Northwestern Conference play.
Next Friday, the Blue and Gold head to West Jefferson to battle Ashe County.
