Alexander Central 49 McDowell 0
Marion: This one is about the “Hog Mollies” First an explanation. Hog Mollie is a term used by former Carolina Panther General Manager Dave Gettleman in reference to the offensive line. Alexander Central’s Hog Mollies dominated McDowell’s defense Friday night in Marion leading the Cougars to an emphatic 49-0 win.
After back-to-back humbling losses to Watauga and Freedom, the Cougar offensive line was maligned by some for not giving the Blue and Gold’s talented core of tailbacks some room to rumble. They didn’t open holes in Marion, they opened chasms. AC rushed for 492 yards behind a determined blocking attack. The Cougar tailbacks found the running lanes wide open all night. Three backs went over 100 yards. AJ Miller had 125 yards on 10 carries, Tevin Clark picked up 115 yards on 14 carries, and Steven Montgomery collected 108 on just 6 touches. Quarterback Easton Rhoney ran 3 times for another 76 yards and two touchdowns. It was obvious from the start that McDowell had no answer on this night. The likes of center Jaden Houston, guards Josh Miller and Kaine Allen, tackles Maguire Hittle and Garrett Martin, along with tight end Lucas Walker, were just too much, way too much !
The Cougars raced out to a lead on the game’s first possession when Steven Montgomery raced to the end zone from 52 yards. The offense was so sharp, they faced third down only twice on the night. Not to be outdone, the Cougar defense was stingy too. McDowell was limited to just 55 yards on the ground meaning there only hope was through the air. Titan quarterback Adam Randolph went 17-24 for 174 yards but was having to throw quick passes because of the furious Cougar pass rush. Jordan Brown had 10 tackles, Tray Lackey collected 9, and Isaac Chapman had 6. Chapman also had a sack and a forced fumble/fumble recovery.
The win puts the Cougar record at 6-2 and 2-2 in the Northwestern Conference. At trip to St Stephens is next on October 19th.
