Conover Woman Charged After Fatal Crash Saturday In Catawba County

A man was killed in a Saturday crash in Catawba County and a Conover woman has been charged.

Floyd Augustus Beal Jr. was operating a motorcycle on Springs Road near the intersection with N.C. Highway 16 shortly after 11:00 am. According the Highway Patrol, Beal’s motorcycle was struck by a vehicle that failed yield at a stop sign. The vehicle was driven by Elaine Wallace Knight, 74, of Conover.

Knight has been charged with

Fatal hit and run resulting in death
Death by vehicle
Reckless driving to endanger
Failure to yield left turn

Knight has been released from custody under a $28,000 secured bond and is scheduled to make a Catawba County District Court appearance on Monday. At this time the N.C. Highway Patrol has yet to issue an official release on the crash.
