Claremont Man Charged In Connection To Fatal Hit And Run

Catawba County – In reference to a fatal hit-and-run vehicle collision that occurred on US 70 in Catawba County on Friday, February 14, the NC State Highway Patrol has made an arrest. Allen Dale Bivens, 44 of Claremont, was arrested Sunday afternoon. He was charged with felony hit-and-run, failure to report an accident, and window tint violation. Bivens is no longer listed in custody after posting a $7,000 secured bond.

As previously reported, the Highway Patrol responded to a fatal hit-and-run collision in Catawba County on US 70 near 4th Street SW. A bicyclist traveling east on US 70 was struck by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene.

The bicyclist, Donald Steven Ricker, 58, of Newton, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
