Catawba County Woman Charged With Murder Of Her Infant Child

An arrest has been made in connection to the death of an infant in Catawba County. 39-year-old Megan Stack Sattizahn of Tanglwoid Drive in Hickory was arrested by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers and charged with murder. The victim in this case is the suspect’s daughter.

Just before five o’clock the morning of July 12, Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near Section House Road, between Conover and Hickory. Deputies encountered an adult female who seemed disoriented. Deputies followed the woman to her residence on Tanglewood Drive. There, they found the woman’s nine-month-old daughter deceased inside the residence.

The Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division initiated an investigation into the child’s death. Foul play was suspected. Sheriff’s Investigators consulted with the District Attorney’s Office. The investigation led to the arrest of the suspect.

Sattizahn is being held in the Catawba County Detention Facility under no bond.  She has a first appearance in Catawba County District Court Monday (July 22).
