Catawba County Rescue Units Save Man After He Falls Down A Well

January 20, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

A man was rescued on Friday after falling into a well in the Vale Community of Catawba County.

The incident occurred on Lefevers Roade near Banoak Elementary School.

The 68-year-old man fell approximately 25 feet down the shaft. Rescue officials say the man was in waist deep water with unknown injuries.

Firefighters from Hickory, Newton, Maiden, and Cooksville responded to the scene. The man was reportedly doing some work on the inside of a stairwell and didn’t know the well, which was covered with some tin, existed.

The victim was rescued and airlifted to regional medical facility. His condition is unknown.
