August 8, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

Carl Lloyd Almany

31-year-old Carl Lloyd Almany III of Claremont, will spend six to nine years in prison following his conviction for property crimes and admission of habitual felon status. Almany entered a guilty plea during Catawba County Superior Court on Tuesday, August 5th.

The Honorable Jacqueline Grant, Superior Court Judge from Buncombe County, imposed terms of the active sentence after Almany pleaded guilty to obtaining property by false pretense, tampering with an inventory control device and two counts of habitual larceny.

The defendant’s sentence will begin at the conclusion of a sentence he currently is serving in DAC custody. Almany’s sentence length was enhanced by prior felony convictions for possession of stolen firearm (October 2018) in Gaston County, financial card fraud (June 2016) in Catawba County and larceny (June 2014) in Lincoln County.

Prior convictions contributing to the habitual larceny charges included misdemeanor larceny (July 2023) in Catawba County, larceny of motor vehicle (March 2023), larceny after breaking/entering (June 2015) and larceny (June 2014), all in Lincoln County.

Almany pleaded guilty to criminal acts that took place between May 30 and July 16, 2024. The offenses were investigated by the Hickory Police Department and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.
