Joshua Lynn Whitmire, 38, of the town of Catawba, pleaded guilty to trafficking in methamphetamine by possession and trafficking in meth by transportation in Catawba County Superior Court on Tuesday. Superior Court Judge Karen Eady-Williams handed down a sentence of six to eight years in prison. Whitmire was also ordered to pay a mandatory fine of $50,000.
Whitmire will serve the sentence at the end of the sentence he is currently serving. That sentence, which he received following a conviction for being an habitual felon, ends in April 2028.
A suspect vehcile was pulled over by a Catawba County deputy on February 2, 2023. The traffic stop was because the vehicle Whitmire was driving had illegal tinting on the windows, the district attorney’s office said.
Whitmire’s car was searched after he admitted to having a burned marijuana cigarette in the vehicle. Deputies found a trafficking amount of methamphetamine, some marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
