Catawba County Man Facing Sexual Assault Charges In Iredell And Lincoln Couties

September 23, 2022 By Richard C. Gilbert

Michael Brandon Shinn

29-year-old Michael Brandon Shinn of Sherrills Ford was arrested Monday (September 19) by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with two counts apiece of first-degree forcible sex offense and second-degree kidnapping. Shinn was being held in Iredell County on similar charges. He is charged in Iredell with two counts of felony second-degree forcible sex offense and one felony count of second-degree forcible sex-ofense.

The suspect was charged in connection with two incidents that occurred in Lincoln County. After a news release about Mr. Shinn sexually assaulting females was posted, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy found a report involving a 29-year-old female from out of county. The woman was contacted and during the interview she confirmed she was sexually assaulted but was afraid to speak up at that time. During the interview she said she met Shinn online and agreed to go out with him. He picked her up for their date and allegedly sexually assaulted her inside his vehicle on March 26, 2022.

The second victim, a 22-year-old Lincoln County woman, also viewed the news release and decided to speak up. She filed a report with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office detailing the incident that occurred. Victim #2 also claimed she met Shinn online and agreed to go out with him. While she was in his car, Shinn allegedly sexually assaulted her as well on January 29, 2022.

A detective with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says it is believed there may be more victims. The detective said if you or someone you know experienced similar incidents with Michael Brandon Shinn, you are encouraged to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Shinn remained in the Iredell County Detention Center, where his bond was increased to $1,100,000 secured. He has a Lincoln County District Court appearance scheduled for Friday, September 23rd.
